A review, and the upset special prediction (UPDATE: Steele's tied up with Cardin)
10/18 06:27 PM
I've been good lately, muzzling much of my book plugging in this space. When I'm on NRANews.com in the evenings, not so much.

On the homepage, you can find Scott Johnson's full review of my book.

Chances are, if you're reading this, you either already have a copy, or you've already heard my sales pitch and found it unpersuasive. But with the election approaching and my efforts at obsessive-compulsive campaign coverage Kerry Spot style, it's possible we have some new readers around here. I'd urge the newbies to check out the review, and/or click on the link above and see what readers are saying on Amazon.com.

I'll make a deal with you. If Election Day 2006 goes better for Republicans than the conventional wisdom, and my skepticism of the polls and predictions of 30-40-50 seat pickups for Democrats proves accurate, do me a favor and either order a copy through the link above or pick up a copy at your local bookstore. (And if they don't have a copy, ask them to order one for you!)

If my skepticism is wrong, and Pelosi is leading a 15-25-35 seat majority... well, then I'll see you in the remainder bin.

So, the book tour has had its share of odd interviews - one host asked about the cover art (which I had next to nothing to do with) and another asked, "Jim, who are we voting to kill?"

But if you want to hear one of the best interviews, Renee Giachino of CFIF hosts a show out of Tampa and clearly had read the book cover to cover and given it a lot of thought. The result was one of the most thought-provoking interviews I've had the pleasure of having, and you can listen to it here.

Similarly, I recently did a fun roundtable with David Weigel of Reason magazine and David Freddoso of the Evans and Novak Inside Report, organized by the America's Future Foundation. (I may have been the token non-David on the panel.) The audio is not posted yet, but when it does, it will be found here.

Host Blake Dvorak asked us all to come up with an "upset special" for Election Day, and I went with Michael Steele, the Republican Senate candidate in Maryland, who I predicted would win by one point.

With news that Maryland's Democratic Congressman Steny Hoyer has called Steele "slavish" and "a token", I kind of wonder if it might not be such an upset. I know that I'm not inclined to agree with these guys on the issues to begin with, but the Maryland Democrats have this bad habit of acting like jerks — comments about "Oreos," "Jewish noses,"slavish," "a token." They really do act like the African-American vote is their birthright.

UPDATE: Yeah, I'm nuts, I'm crazy, how could I predict that, it's not like the polls are showing Steele tied with Cardin...

Oh, that's right, they are.
